Sheetal served as the first Director of Public Engagement at Pioneer Works in Red Hook, Brooklyn until September 2018. There she led strategy for public engagement across the institution leading a division including visitors services, programming and partnerships. With a focus on multi and interdisciplinary practices, she also oversaw expansion and development of community, school, and public programs, garnering a $300,000 foundation grant. From 2010-2016, she worked in the education department of The Museum of Modern Art, serving as the Assistant Director, Learning and Artists Initiatives (2014-2016). There, she collaborated with a range of artists to develop experimental public programs and projects. From 2007 to 2010, she served as Director of Educational Programs at the Mary and Leigh Block Museum of Art at Northwestern University. In Spring 2019, Sheetal joins the faculty of School of Visual Arts (New York) in the MFA Fine Arts program. Previously, she held adjunct faculty positions at Montclair State University (MFA program, 2017- 2018) and at Moore College of Art and Design (MFA program, 2016-2017).
From 2016-2017, Sheetal co-curated a series of 6 GAME NIGHT events with independent curator and educator Anna Harsanyi in New York- a series of free social events presenting artist-made games for play. The series concluded in spring 2017 and was funded by grant from the Awesome Foundation.
Sheetal has provided consulting and advisory services for a range of institutions including Montclair Art Museum, Barrow Gallery, Museum of Fine Arts Houston, Museo Jumex, Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy, and others. She speaks on topics including art, education, pedagogy, social practice, management, and career development. She has been an invited guest to international conferences including C2 Montreal 2015 and KinnerLat 2016.
Sheetal has held residencies at the Wassaic Project (New York, 2018), Haystack Mountain School of Craft (Maine, 2017), Arquetopia Foundation (Mexico, 2016), Elsewhere Museum (North Carolina, 2016), the The Elizabeth Foundation for the Arts (New York, 2015/6), and the Srishti School of Art, Design, and Technology (India, 2014). Her work has been presented at EFA Project Space (NYC), Elsewhere Museum (Greensboro, NC), Denny Gallery (NYC), and The Galleries at Moore (Philadelphia).
She received a Bachelor of Arts in History and Gender Studies from Northwestern University and a Master of Arts in Arts Administration and Policy from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
